Monday Rolls Around Again

 Bonjour My Lovelies,

Well, as predicted, the weekend was beastly!  And buggy.  I woke in the night with my arms, legs and feet itching from mosquito bites.

Friday afternoon I left Colin's a little early.  He was finished work and a severe thunderstorm was forecast.  I wanted to get home before the sky opened up.  Part way down 363, I came upon barricades closing my road.  I skirted around on a detour like everyone else and the traffic got heavier and heavier.  Anyway, a few miles from home the sky did open up and the rain was so hard that it was difficult to even see the road.  But, by the time I drove those last couple of miles home the rain had stopped.  Nothing measurable in the rain gauge, but the wind had cooled things down a bit.  Enough that we could sit on the patio before dinner.

Saturday morning was filled with laundry and a few errands.  By Sunday I decided to skip cleaning the kitchen floor and the bathrooms.  I just didn't feel like it and it was too darn hot.  Really more humid than hot.  The temps were low, but it felt like 500% humidity.

I did walk out to the garden on Sunday afternoon though.  I wanted to pull some onions to use in Sunday's dinner.  And, to my surprise, I found that little figs are starting to appear!!

Such a great sight!  I had just about given up on figs this year.  Our tree was late to leaf out and it is still very low - not as tall as prior years.  But healthy and many figs.  Count me as a happy person.

This week I am watching Iris Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  It helps (my back) to have a day off in-between babysitting.  Thursday I see the dermatologist for my semi-annual full body check.  Other than that, no real plans.  Which is ok, it's too miserable weather-wise to have plans.

I hope this Monday finds your week off to a pleasant start.  Take care and stay hydrated.

  1. We had a couple of quick heavy downpours here, too, but I don't think they did much other than add to the humidity. How exciting to find some figs growing! I'm sure your mouth is already watering anticipating them. My Monday is off to an early start, as someone started barking shortly after 5 a.m., but at least there's hot coffee!

  2. Babies are really hard on the back, aren't they?? There is nothing ergonomic about any of it! It's really been an awful summer for enjoying the outdoors -- it's either raining or too hot & humid to enjoy it. I think four out of five of our weekly community concerts has been rained out. Would love a little leveling off for August. (One can hope.)

  5. Oh boy can I relate to those mosquito bites! I woke up in the night on Friday and they were driving me crazy with bites on my feet and ankles. Our weather was pretty pleasant over the weekend, not too humid. Or maybe I just don't notice it as much now that we've got the mini splits at home. I still prefer it to the cold, though!

  6. We've had a lot of rain like that - comes down all at once, but doesn't really amount to much in the rain gauge.

  7. Uggy, buggy and muggy. That's what's going on out there. I am so over summer.

  8. This humidity is oppressive! I keep telling myself that I shouldn't complain; at least I'm not working outdoors like Justin or laying down blacktop like my BiL. But hooray for a week with breaks and baby figs!

  9. It's like an absolute sauna out there! We're up north this week, and it's nearly unbearable! In the 30 years we've had our little cabin, it's only been in the 90s one other time (that we can remember). It's a good thing we're in the woods . . . with the lake nearby . . . because we have no A/C. Just a lot of window fans.

  13. Omaha is really hot too and I'm super glad we escaped to the northwest for a few weeks. Although it's still hot here but not humid. No bugs to speak of either.
Glad you get a bit of a break for your back. I know about that. Lifting babies isn't easy is it?
    Blessings,
    Betsy
