Unraveled Wednesday 7/16/25

 Hello My Friends,

Today I am grateful for another 73 degree morning.  Yes, it was pretty warm and muggy yesterday, but the morning was nice and I think this morning will be nice as well.  I'll take what I can get!

Hey!!  It's Wednesday and time to link up with Kat and her Merry Band of Unravelers to chat all about making and reading.  Why don't you join us?

Yesterday I showed my stitching, so today I will share my knitting.  Sock #2 is coming along.  A little on the slow side (more time spent on stitching), but still progress has been made.  I was even able to knit 5 rows or so while at Colin's on Monday (while Iris was having lunch with Colin).

The leg is roughly 1/3 completed.  I usually knit 70-75 rows after the cuff before starting the heel flap.  The pattern (Simple Skyp Socks) continues to be fun.  I'll take it with me today when I head over to Colin's in a little bit.

Reading was pretty good this past week as well.  A novella by Fredrik Backman - And Every Morning The Way Home Gets Longer and Longer was read one evening.  I found this little gem to be beautiful.  Reading it reminded me of one of my favorite books - "Einstein's Dreams" by Alan Lightman.

The past week found me reading my first John Banville novel.  I know many of you have read his books, but I had not and then one of my brothers recommended him to me.  I read The Lock-Up which is the third in a series featuring DI Strafford and pathologist Quirke.  Although I only found the story to be so-so, the writing was wonderful and the characters are so good.  I will definitely be picking up another one to give it a try.

Lastly, I had seen and picked up at the library a volume of poetry by a new-to-me poet.  Otherworld, Underworld, Prayer Porch by David Bottoms offered some interesting poems.  A bit of it seemed repetitious to me, but it was still enjoyable.

Mid-week and mid-month...so soon!  Here's to a great rest of the week for all of us.  Enjoy!

  1. Your second sock is coming along nicely, especially since you are with Iris. It's fairly warm and muggy here and I find myself wishing for just one day without humidity, but that's a slippery slope. I'd want another one, then another, and another. I don't want to wish time away; I wold just like it to be fall!

  2. I am with Bonny in finding myself daydreaming about fall! (which is quite easy to do when the temperatures seem to be stuck in the 90's!) Today I am going to wind up that yarn for baby blankets and get knitting! (and I am kind of excited for today's Snippets Show!)

  3. Your second sock is flying, Vera. I usually find that the second-whatever (sock, sleeve, etc.) goes faster than the first-whatever. I have no idea why that would be, but that's been my experience!

  4. I barely knit this week but I am enjoying your knitting and everyone else's knitting!! Tonight I will be back at it. Love the second sock progress.

  5. I'm happy to see that sock growing and to hear that you've had some decent reading this week! I hope the extreme heat continues to stay away from you.

  6. I just put two rows on my socks while the baby is sleeping and big brother is having lunch with grandpa. It’s not much but it’s something. I hate to haul all my projects up here and never get to them.

  7. You've made way more progress on your sock than I have on mine!
