Oops!

Good Morning All,

Happy Halloween!!  It is a wet one here, but mild.  We are forecast to be in the mid-seventies with rain...heavy at times.  Tomorrow it is supposed to be at least 20 degrees cooler.  It appears that our roller coaster weather is continuing.

A couple more things about Sisters' Weekend.  Mom is not my blood Mom.  She is my best friend's Mom and I have called her Mom ever since I met her (and Leslie, my friend, always called my Mom "Mom" as well).  My blood Mom has, unfortunately been gone for 15 years.  I miss her daily, but it helps to have my Italian Mother still here (and still cooking!!).

I gave Leslie the Watermelon Socks and she loved them.  And, they fit her perfectly!  All the sisters want socks the next time we get together...guess I'll be using up some of the sock yarn I've been hoarding/buying/saving.

The "Oops" in the title refers to the Canary Blanket...last night I started to knit on it when I noticed a glaring mistake...several purl stitches that should have been knit stitches.  I took a picture, but for some reason I'm unable to upload it to this post 😠  My initial thought was to leave it - sort of a style statement, or making it my own, but it is so awful looking that I want to fix it.  I've never done this before, but I spent a little time watching some videos last night about correcting stitches several rows down.  I was too tired last night to try, but will give it a go either tonight or tomorrow.  Wish me luck!!

Our Halloween luncheon was nice yesterday.  The costumes were mostly so-so and I did not take any pictures as the room was very dark (just candlelight).  I think today the office will close early for Halloween (so many people still have young children who go out), so that will be nice.

Wishing everyone a day filled with treats and no tricks!

  1. Correcting stitches: you can do it! I once dropped down four inches of a blanket where a cable was crossed wrong and fixed it. Once you figure it out it's not hard. (hint: I used smaller dp needles; depending on your number of stitches that might or might not help.) Good Luck!

  4. Oh, good luck with fixing those stitches! I'm rooting for you!

It's pouring rain here in NEO all day long. We need it, badly, but it will make an impact on trick-or-treat for the forseeable. We're getting lots of rainy days now.

  5. Glad the socks were a hit. You'll be busy for sure making socks for ALL the sisters and Mom.

P.S. It is pouring like a monsoon here right now. YIKES!)

  6. It's so nice to knit for people who appreciate the gift! I'll bet you'll have a great time knitting socks for the whole (2nd) family. :-) And YES to correcting your stitches! You can do it -- and you'll feel so good (and competent) once you've got things straightened around! We've got rain here . . . with rapidly dropping temperatures . .. so it should be snowing by the time trick-or-treating begins. (I'm glad I'll just be handing out treats from the comfort of my warm house.) Happy Halloween!

  7. Oh, no....we lost our moms at about the same time. How nice that you have a "second" mom. I feel that way about Daddio's little lady friend who was also a friend of the family back when I was just a kid. I have to go by and give her a hug from time to time just to still have that connection. She's all I have left. They reconnected in the nursing home when she was losing her husband to Alzheimer's and my mother was dying from leukemia. They hadn't seen each other in over 30 years but there they were in the same place at the right time for each other.
Blogger has been being a real butt about uploading pictures lately. I don't know what's up with that.

  8. Good luck on the fixing!! I've done it several times... sometimes re-doing, too. Once you get a rhythm, you should be good to go!

  9. I've laddered down to fix stitches before. Just take your time and you'll do fine!

  10. The stitches can easily be fixed. Knit to the stitch, drop it and ladder it down. Use a crochet hook to ladder it back up. Since it's all stockinette, it will be easy peasy. You can do this.

Temperatures have been in the below zero range for the last four days. Right now, it's 20° above and it feels heavenly.

  11. You can do it. Like everyone says, just take a deep breath and go for it. I fix dropped/wrong stitchs exactly like Nancy explained.
We're cold today, but sunny. No rain predicted.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  12. You can certainly ladder down-do you have a crochet hook to ease the operation?

  13. Our weather is just too weird. We have six inches of snow .. Since we are headed to the barn, we can still Play Halloween. Lots of fun during classes at the barn on Halloween WEEK! But it feels wrong. I have when weather effects me....

  14. Dropping down stitches to fix them is scary, but it works a charm. Go for it! When you are nice and ready. lol! Not when you're tired or anything!

  15. Dropping down stitches is more complicated than it looks. I usually give it a go. If I can fix something without ripping inches of knitting, I'm ahead. If not and I have to frog back, I haven't lost anything by trying. Best of luck.

  16. It's nice to have any kind of mother, and how lucky to have two women to call 'mom' one still here!! bummer about the mistake, I've dropped down and tried to fix and if not then I rip it all out.

  17. I love that you have another Mom to love you and for you to love. I think my oldest son has two friends that think of me as their second Mom and I am honored by that. Hope you have a wonderful weekend.

  18. I'm glad you have a 2nd mom to love you. I'm probably too old to have another one.. lol. Sorry about the oopsie.. that is one of the reasons I crochet more is fixing a knitting mistake makes me want to jump off a cliff. Have a great weekend. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
