Unraveled Wednesday

Good Morning!

I had completely forgotten that yesterday was Fat Tuesday/Mardi Gras, but Fletch had not forgotten.  I wish I had remembered because I would have made red beans for dinner…but we had salmon instead.  We still had our masks though!

LOL  And my red face…after my doctor’s appointment yesterday I have some new prescriptions to use but still no make up until it clears up.  Unfortunately it’s a type of dermatitis that can come and go at a whim.  For some it is triggered by hot and humid weather; for me it may be the dry cold weather that brings it on.  Stress is another trigger for a lot of people.  Oh well, things could be so much worse and I’m trying to consider myself lucky.

I managed to knit another tooth on my Hitchhiker last night – I’m now up to 27 teeth and I have 56 or 57 grams left in my 100 gram skein.  The pattern calls for 41 or 42 teeth, so I’m hoping I can get there.  There are now 114 stitches on the needles.  I’ll probably take the time to do a little math and see where I might end up.

On the reading front, my slump may have been cured.  I’m about a third of the way through The Library Book and really enjoying it.  I keep wanting to write down lines or quotes   One of my favorites:

“In Senegal, the polite expression for saying someone died is to say his or her library has burned. When I first heard the phrase, I didn’t understand it, but over time I came to realize it was perfect. Our minds and souls contain volumes inscribed by our experiences and emotions; each individual’s consciousness is a collection of memories we’ve cataloged and stored inside us, a private library of a life lived.”
― Susan Orlean, The Library Book

Head on over to Kat’s to see what others are up to reading-wise and knitting-wise.

I made jambalaya and hoppin' john for dinner. The Mister walked around in his beads all day. Lol....

  2. "...a private library of a life lived." That's a lovely metaphor.

Isn't it wonderful to read truly great writing?

  3. I didn't celebrate Mardi Gras yesterday, but I did have a doughnut in honor of Fastnacht Day! I've never done Hitchhiker math, but I think Martina Behm originally got 42 teeth with a 150 g skein of Wollmeise. I hope your math yields an answer you like!

  5. We had pancakes, as per our usual Shrove Tuesday dinner. We did have an apple so I cut it up and cooked it in brown sugar and butter for topping.

  6. My rosacea flares in both heat and cold - the cold wind is currently giving me red cheeks. Sigh!

  7. I didn’t realize it was Fat Tuesday either. However, I really know next to nothing about Mardi Gras. You both look great in your masks! My skin is so dry right now that I’m slathering lotion on constantly. I can’t wait for this cold weather to break, but the weatherman tells us another 4 to 6 inches of snow will be coming tonight.
That is an amazing quote and very true . Thank you for sharing it with us.
I hope you are having a wonderful Wednesday.
    Blessings, Betsy

  8. We did not celebrate Fat Tuesday - but perhaps we should have. But, I do so hope your face is back to normal soon - winter skin just really sucks. I am at the "there is not enough moisturizer on earth" phase... my hands will be so happy when spring arrives!

  9. It was fun to see you two in your Mardi gras masks! We lived in Louisiana for 5 years during which I got to go in and spend MG week right in New Orleans 2 years in a row when a friend was there visiting her parents. I got to spend several nights with them and in the days my friend and I got to go watch the parades and catch beads and doubloons.. what a great memory. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  10. I listened to selected chapters of The Library Book and enjoyed them...many reviews I've read were a "thumbs down" for the book...so, it was good to read your take. That quote is a great one; love the perspective.
Good luck with your skin problem...

  14. Love the masks! I always like to see what people are reading. Right now, I'd just like to pick something up at least once a week and I will feel good.
