Hello Friends,
It's Friday and I'm happy about that. I had 3 very good days with sweet Iris this week, but I am ready for a day at home! Today is that sweet girl's birthday and I cannot believe she is a year old. I think I mentioned that I'm having a difficult time coming up with gift ideas for everyone. That is not quite true. It is very easy to find things for Iris...and they keep being delivered to my door! LOL
Anyway, today I thought I would share some blooms with you. The first is not quite blooming, but it is budded. By my count this morning there are (at least) two dozen buds on this Christmas Cactus!
This plant is from a very, very old plant. Years ago (maybe 25 or more...maybe 35) I took a cutting from the Christmas Cactus at my Grandmother's home in Vermont. That plant was HUGE. You could not even wrap your arms around it! My plant has had good years and some that were not so good, but I think this year will be a banner one!
Extra surprising is the snapdragon blossom that I cut about 2 weeks ago. It is still looking wonderful. Often when I cut a snapdragon in the summer, it will start to lose petals pretty rapidly. Not now!
The bonus is that there is another stalk in bloom outside! Wonders never cease.
My Yin Yoga class last night was very good, though I may have twisted a little too far - LOL. I've had a pain in my left side all night. Advil is my friend though and I have another Yin class at Noon today. My plan/hope is to do a few errands this morning before class and then settle in for an afternoon of stitching and/or knitting. There is a library book that has come in for me, so I will stop there and I'm betting there might just be a nap this afternoon as well. I took an eye roast out of the freezer for dinner and have fresh asparagus and a huge buttercup squash to go along with that.
The kids fly out to Aruba early tomorrow morning. I will still be going over to the house - actually twice a day - to feed Talbot while they are gone. And to water their Christmas tree if needed. Bonnie volunteered to take them all to the airport and pick them up when they return.
I hope everyone has a relaxing weekend planned with a bit of fun thrown in - enjoy!

Have a wonderful weekend, Vera! Enjoy your days. XO
ReplyDeleteBlooms in the winter always feel like a big bonus! I hope your plan for today comes to fruition; it sounds both productive and relaxing. Not many one-year-olds get to go to Aruba for their birthday. Happy Birthday to Iris and I hope you have a good weekend!
ReplyDeleteMy Christmas Cacti are also full of blooms (even the new baby!!) Plus, I treated myself to a new one from TJ's a couple of weeks ago... it is settling in quite nicely! Have a fantastic Friday and an even better weekend!
ReplyDeleteMy cousin has my grandmother's Christmas cactus & it also was/is huge. Innumerable cuttings have been shared over the years. Have a great weekend (it's going to be a cold one here)!
ReplyDeletesounds like you'll get a nice little break!
ReplyDeleteIt's going to be very hard for me to not bring home a Christmas cactus from the nursery when we go on Sunday. Everyone's been posting such lovely photos of theirs this year. I think of my mom who always had several in her laundry room.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to Iris! It is fun to buy for the little Grands. My big Grands not so much. I let them pick out their gifts this year and I'm donating them. Now that I have them here there is no way they are getting these GIANT nerf guns on my watch. Their parents will kill me. They are getting some socks and some money in an envelope instead.
Wow -Iris is one year old! I'm sure she's very busy these days, LOL.
ReplyDeleteMy Christmas cactus has decided to bloom as well! I always wonder if it would bloom at all if I actually took care of it ...
My Christmas cactus plants (2) are blooming. They had buds before we left for Thanksgiving so I was afraid I'd miss the best bloom but they waited until we returned. A blooming snapdragon is quite a treat in December. Your weekend plans sound very nice. This weekend I am hoping to be at home, wrap some gifts, and bake brownies. This past week has been a bit of a whirlwind so I am looking forward to a quiet few days.
ReplyDeleteYour Christmas cactus looks very healthy and like it will reward you with lots of blooms! I hope you took it a little easier at yoga and are feeling better today. A weekend of stitching, knitting, and reading sound perfect. Maybe a nap, too?
ReplyDeleteI am very honoured to share a birthday with wee Iris!
ReplyDeleteMy cactuses are healthy but none have bloomed. I think I have them too close to the grow lights I have on other plants. I may have to move things around...
(belated) Birthday wishes for Iris and Colin! Super impressed with all the beautiful green inside! my waxed amaryllis are starting to peek up from their bulbs but it's going to be a bit (Happy New Year!?) before there's much green and likely Valentines for blooms. I thought of you yesterday when I tried full pigeon for the first time in years (I managed a few minutes on my right side and gosh did that feel good). Yay for Yin!!
ReplyDeleteI hope they have a safe trip! Happy birthday!! My cactus did one blossom and that is it.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing all of the Christmas cacti coming into bloom!
