Weekending 12/8/25

 Hello, Hello!

Whoosh!  Again the weekend sped by.  It was (too) busy and fast.

There was yoga

There was baking a cake for Iris.  (And both layers fell apart when they came out of the pan!  I wanted to cry but instead I cursed really loudly.  The frosting - whipped cream - luckily held everything sort of together.  And it did taste good.)

There was celebrating Iris' birthday with lots of presents and laughs and good times.

There was a trip to the laundromat (my washer is now scheduled for - hopefully the final - repair tomorrow).

There was helping Fletcher wash his hair!!  He had a spot of skin cancer on his nose that was removed on Friday.  He now has a honking LARGE bandage on his nose that cannot get wet.  Luckily he goes back today for a bandage change and for the doctor to have a look-see.  Hopefully a small bandage will be in place.

There was ordering a new TV.  On Friday the volume on our TV quit.  Just like that!  We finally got around to ordering one late yesterday afternoon.  Last night before I went to bed the volume inexplicably came back on!  I need to quickly cancel the order!!

And now I'm thinking about the holidays fast approaching.  I have not thought about cards at all.  I have not bought more than a couple of gifts. I'm having a difficult time coming up with ideas for anyone!  The problem is that we all don't NEED anything and when we want something we just buy it.  BUT, I'd like to have something for folks to unwrap on Christmas.

Finally there was waking at 3 a.m. and not getting back to sleep.  Ugh.  And today I'm on Iris duty - hopefully I can stay awake.

OK, that's more than enough.  I hope your weekends were lovely and cheers to the week ahead.  May it be filled with happiness and relaxation.

  1. Sounds like a fun, full weekend, even if it did go by too quickly! I hope Iris enjoyed her cake -- I'm sure it was delicious even if it was a bit delicate.

  2. We have so many late November, December and January birthdays among the Grands that it is hard to concentrate on Christmas anymore. I panicked this weekend and got things going but it's going to still be a very abbreviated version of what I usually do.

  3. That 3am wake up seems to be impacting a lot of people. Fingers crossed for the machine repair.

  4. I think I finished up everything over the weekend (you know something will pop into my brain that I need to get... ha!) I hope Fletch is sporting a smaller bandage soon and that that darned washer is fixed!

  5. Your cake dilemma sounds like my kitchen experiences not yours! lol I was up for hours last night--it is such a bother when you have plans the next day! Hope it goes well with Iris today! (I have a suspicious spot on my nose and am going to the dermatologist next week.)

  6. We have mostly stopped gift-giving because all of us have everything we need. We give the kids money and I still knit several things for them, but it saves me struggling for ideas every year. I hope Fletch had a smaller bandage and I'm sure Iris' cake was delicious.

  7. I can't believe Iris is having a birthday already!! Rusty has had basal cell cancer procedures (of various kinds & on various body parts) since before I met him... no surprise, as a fair-haired kid who grew up on the beaches of Southern California. I hope Fletch is able to sport a nicer bandage -- and best wishes for quick healing!

  9. Happy belated birthday to Iris. Like everyone else, I cannot believe it has been a year.

  10. I'm feeling the same way with gifts this year. I want to do experiences instead but I haven't come up with anything for that either!

  11. I like your buffet decor. Simple and beautiful. The month is speeding by so far. We leave on Wednesday and I just started packing today. I know I'll forget something but oh, well. We'll live without whatever it is. We didn't get as many gifts this year as in the past and when Mandy asked for ideas for us I couldn't come up with anything except jeans for Dennis. :-) We're like you. If we really need something, we buy it, but I do l love watching others open their gifts from us.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  12. We get a special food or treat item that is a favorite of recipient, and donate to their favorite cause in their name. My friend always gifts us a card for the Italian store or gourmet shop. Kids get passes to theme parks, adults to concert or theater. But with very small family now, gifting is much less. Hope that washer gets fixed.

  13. Your Christmas decor is so lovely, Vera. And I share your same dilemma about what-to-get the people I love for Christmas every year! We have cut way, way back on our "gifting" over the years, but like you, I do enjoy having a few little things for opening. I'm glad Iris had a delightful birthday celebration (broken cakes taste just as good as all-together cakes . . . just sayin') and I still cannot believe she is already 1!!! I hope Fletch has a nicer bandage . . . AND that your service call is a successful one. XO

  14. I hope Fletch's nose is on the way toward healing. I bet Iris didn't mind at all that her birthday cake was held together with whipped cream. Happy Birthday to that little one. I am late to Christmas gifts and wrapping and shopping too. Now to get that washer repaired.
