Weekending

Good Morning!

It is grey outside and we are supposed to have some "weather" today - snow/sleet/rain/freezing rain, etc.  Nothing yet which is a good thing.  Our work Christmas lunch is today at Noon at Davio's in King of Prussia.  I'm planning to go to that and then just go home.

We did get some sad news over the weekend.  I got a call Friday night that my Uncle (my last uncle!!) had passed away that morning.  I think the funeral is this Friday (still waiting for details), so we'll be heading down to Maryland for that.  Then Saturday we got a call that Fletcher's Aunt had passed away that morning.  Her funeral is Wednesday in Richmond, but we are not planning to go down to that.  Neither death was completely unexpected (both were in their 90's), but it is still hard to hear - particularly at this time of year.

Saturday night we were at Colin & Mailing's to celebrate their birthdays.  Mailing made a fabulous dinner:  rack of lamb, roasted Brussels sprouts with pears and pistachios, home-made rolls and a cream brulee pie.  YUM!!

I did not get a good picture of the pie, but it was WOW! delicious.  Everything was tasty.

This year the kids opted for a Christmas tree with a root ball that they will plant on their property come Spring.  We helped them decorate it while we were over.

That's Talbot walking by the tree.  Marcel was also nearby:

Look at his gorgeous ruff!!  Talbot just wanted to cuddle with the birthday boy:

I love Talbot's right front leg with the "garter" on it.  He is so handsome as well.

Mailing loved her Yin Yang cat socks:

I was so happy they fit her!

Sunday turned out to be exactly like I wanted.  I read, I knit, I baked some cookies, I wrapped some gifts and I even took a little nap.  Some of everything!  I also managed to do several loads of laundry, cook breakfast and dinner!  A full day.  I left butter on the counter this morning to soften so that I can make some more cookies tonight.

That pretty much sums up my weekend.  How was yours?

  2. It sounds like you had a terrific weekend -- productive, but not frantic, and time for a nap! We're supposed to get weather here in NJ, too, but I'm hoping to get a few errands done this morning. So much good food and beautiful cats here!

  5. I'm very sorry for your loss. Living to your 90s is quite an achievement, but its still very sad when they finally do take their leave.

Talbot and Marcel are so handsome!

  6. I am so sorry for your losses. It is so hard to lose someone at this time of year. The sad just seems to stick with you longer.
Your kitty friends are adorable. The one with the ruff is a regular lion of a kitty. I don't think I've ever seen one like that.

  7. Oh it is hard to lose someone during the holidays, I'm sorry you and Fletch have to experience it.

That's a pretty tree, and such pretty kitties! It's nice to see a photo of grown-up Colin, after seeing his school pics. :-)

  8. Sounds like a lovely celebration of birthdays. I hope Colin and Mailing have more success than we did with keeping the tree till spring to plant. Ours always ended up dying before we could plant it. I guess we don't have green thumbs. :(

Sorry for your family members' deaths. That's so hard this time of year. Safe travels.
