Tuesday Mid-July

Hello All,

Well, I had intended to post yesterday, but I had another quick laser eye surgery in the morning and was pretty blurry the rest of the day!  I have had high pressure in both eyes and the procedure I've had done is to relieve that pressure and hopefully eliminate the need for me to take any drops.  Fingers crossed.  I go back in September for a pressure check.

Anyhoo, we did get a car on Saturday!  We bought a Subaru CrossTrek and so far I'm loving it.  You have to wonder about some dealers though.  We had been working with dealer #1 but he kept insisting that the car we wanted wasn't available locally and he wouldn't work with us on pricing.  Fletch called another local dealer and Voila!  They had the car we wanted in stock ...it actually had some additional features that we had not requested (like a moon roof which I had in another car and really enjoyed), but the price was several thousand less than what dealer #1 had told us.  We had an appointment at 10:30 Saturday morning and I was driving it home before Noon!  Now my "chore" for today is to go on line and donate the car we are getting rid of -- donating it to our local classical/jazz radio station.

Meanwhile the heat is building - we are supposed to be in the mid to upper 90's through the weekend with very high humidity.  I have a cold dinner planned for tonight, but need to figure out food for the rest of the week.

The Porthos Sock has seen a bit of progress - I'm about halfway down the foot now.  It came to work with me today and I'm hoping to get a bit done at lunch.

The table is a mess, but at least you can see the sock (and my water bottle and my Word:  Strength!! - merci my friend).  My Word is now gracing my desk at work where I really need to find Strength at times.....

Are any of you experiencing the Lantern Flies?  We do not have them on our property, but our neighbors sure do.  Their trees are now wrapped in bands that are like glue traps.  Fletch walked over to look at them yesterday and said there were hundreds of the flies trapped.  I don't think I want to look.

Hope everyone is having a great week!

  1. Oh my - I hope that the laser treatment fixes the pressure problem. Your sock looks so great!

And, I heard about Lantern Flies... but have seen none (and I hope that we don't!)

  2. So far, no lanternfly infestation worries here in NEO. Please stop them there!

Glad you got a car you love and outfoxed that dealer. Isn't car buying a minefield? What a shame.

  3. Sending good thoughts that the laser treatment works on the pressure issues.

It sounds like things worked out really well with the Cross Trek. I hope you enjoy many safe and happy miles with it. Too bad for the stubborn first dealer!

  4. Hope the surgery helps and congrats on the car.

I haven't seen any adult lantern flies, but I've seen the nymphs on my rose bushes. Killed some, but boy are they quick.

  5. A new car is always so much fun. I used to always drive a sporty Subaru when the kids were babies until I hit the mini van years. Sigh. I didn't recover until I bought myself a Mini Cooper the year I turned 50. The poor thing is in the driveway with no tags. Like me, she's lost her get up and go! Lol....

  10. I'm so glad you found a car that you want and at a good price. We had a similar experience at a dealter. He wouldn't talk to me, kept telling me to bring my husband in so we could talk. I told him I would be buying a car that day, but not from him. I left and went to his competitor and bought the same car.
I've never heard of lantern flies. Do they bite are are they just annoying?
I hope you surgery fixed your pressure issue and your eyesight returns to normal soon.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  12. I haven't heard of Lantern Flies and hope not to see them. We have Japanese beetles in two fully grown trees, a linden and a birch. This is the second year for the linden. One cannot spray an entire tree and hanging traps attract more. Thanks for keeping life real with your table. It doesn't look messy to me but I know how that goes. Fingers crossed the eye surgery does what it is supposed to do.

  13. Sending good thoughts about your laser treatments! and yay! for the new car and the sock (and not the Lantern Flies - never heard of them, and I don't think I want to know more!)

  14. I've never heard of Lantern Flies, but I'm a little familiar with that destructive type of bug... we get tent caterpillars and they use similar bands/barriers to thwart their march. I hope your eye surgery does the trick!
