Good Morning!
How are you and how was your weekend? I'm happy to say that the kids got home safely Saturday evening. And soon I will leave to go over and spend the day with Iris. I cannot wait to see her!! I'm betting she has not yet learned to say Gramma, but she will have fun teasing me when I ask her to say it.
Saturday while driving over to C&M's to feed Talbot in the morning I almost had an accident...I was driving along and traffic was not bad and then I pulled something off my hair...or ear...and discovered it was a tick. Violent words came out of my mouth! You cannot blow those things off. I rolled down the window and tried, but it held fast to my hand. Luckily I had a box of tissues in the car. I grabbed one and got the tick into it, rolled it up tight and held it until I reached the house (luckily not too far). First thing I did was flush that tissue down the toilet!
Geeze...I felt itchy ALL day long and kept feeling as though "things" were crawling on me. This morning I woke to Mabel right by my head and that freaked me out! We did treat her the other day with NexGuard, but still...
Anyway, on to better things. My herbs are all in pots at the edge of the patio now!
Basil, Rosemary and Thyme. And, I used some of the Thyme and Rosemary last night! I was cooking haddock and decided to do it in foil packs on the indoor grill. That worked great, by the way - only took 8 minutes or so for the fish to cook. Before I closed up the packets to cook, I spread a mixture of EVOO, fresh lemon juice, minced garlic, and fresh Thyme, Rosemary and Parsley all over the fish. Delicious!
Mother's Day turned out to be a beautiful day. I did spend some time doing chores that had recently been ignored (bathrooms were cleaned and kitchen floor scrubbed), but time was also found to stitch a little (very little) and knit just a tiny bit. All in all, not a bad day.
Now I need to down a bit more coffee and then head out to see Iris! Have a wonderful Monday.

It sounds like at least the tick had not bitten in yet. They are the scary ones to me, and I don't even trust the CDC recommendations anymore (one dose of 200 mg doxycycline and watch for symptoms). But your herbs look good and I hope you have a lovely day with Iris today!
ReplyDeleteThank goodness the tick was still crawling... yikes! Frankie had his flea and tick medicine this morning, but I do a good check of us both when we come in from the out of doors! Your herbs look so nice! I need to get out to get a few to put in pots but our weather has been so very cold recently and we have another frost warning for tonight. Have a good day with Miss Iris!
ReplyDeleteIck, finding a tick sounds horrible! But I'm glad you got it off of you (and didn't have a car accident in the process). Fresh herbs are the best part of cooking in the warmer months. I ordered basil and rosemary from our synagogue's plant sale, and we've got oregano in the ground that keeps coming back with a vengeance. Have a delightful time with Iris today!
ReplyDeleteA tick is not a good mother's day gift! Enjoy your day with Iris---I bet she is thrilled to see you!
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing that you had a wonderful day with Iris and I hope she said Grandma for you! But the tick. Yuck. I really do not like those things and everytime we go camping out here in the midwest I freak out a bit. They didn't seem to be as bad in the northwest. I'm sure glad you found it before it bit and stayed.
ReplyDeleteBlessings and hugs,
Betsy
When we go out back to work with the new trees I'm covered from head to toe. No ticks for me please.
ReplyDeleteI hope to go buy some herb plants myself today. We were supposed to go yesterday but it rained all day.
Ticks are the worst! They give me the heebee jeebees and I always think they are crawling on me after I've been in any high grass. I hope you had a great day with Iris yesterday!
ReplyDeleteTicks are nasty indeed!!! I'm sure you are anxious to get hold of Iris!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear the kids got home safe!
ReplyDeleteUgh! Ticks! I was just saying to a neighbour I'm going to have to start checking Furby for ticks!
yay they are home! I love the smell of those herbs so yummy and homey feeling to me.
ReplyDeleteThe ticks are thick around here this Spring. Ugh. I have some herbs in pots too. I think they are my favorite thing to grow. Glad your family arrived home safely. I imagine Iris has grown in the time she was gone.
