Unraveled Wednesday 1/7/26

 Hey-Hey and Good Morning!

I'm late to posting today - I had an early eye doctor appointment and had to be out the door before 8 a.m..  It is mild outside!!  Also extremely foggy here and traffic was nuts.  I'm glad to be home now.  There are things I should do today (laundry for one assuming my dryer will be repaired by early afternoon!), but I've already taken care of some of them which is a good feeling.

Now it's time to link up with Kat and her Merry Band of Unravelers to chat about what we are making and reading.  I love Unraveled Wednesdays - always inspiring and often enabling which is fun.

So good to write that there has not been any unraveling so far this year!!  In fact, the family socks are moving along nicely.  Mailing's shortie socks are completed and the first toddler sock for Iris has been started.

Iris has already outgrown the socks that I knit for her in September!  I may need to take a new measurement of her feet tomorrow when I am watching her.

There was a brief thought of unraveling my Hitch on the Move, as I'm not thrilled with it.  But when I pulled it out several months ago with the thought of unraveling I decided to wait.  This time I didn't even pull it out because I did not want to start off 2026 by unraveling something.

Reading is constant, but not fast.  I did finish a book yesterday - The Eights by Joanna Miller.  This novel is set in the early 1920's and about the first women admitted to Oxford University (to the dismay of many men!).  It was an enjoyable, easy read.  My friend Carol's grandmother attended one of the colleges at Oxford (I forget which one), but it turns out she attended much, much later (1960's).

I've started reading Invitation to a Banquet: The Story of Chinese Food by Fuchsia Dunlop which I am borrowing from C&M.  This will not be a fast read, but it is quite interesting.  I also picked up two more books from the library that came in for me - both of which are new so I must read them and then return...no renewing with these.  They are Broken Country and The Artist and the Feast.

As always, too many books and not enough time!  I hope this note finds everyone doing well.  We are now one week down in the New Year!

  1. I read The Artist and the Feast last year and really enjoyed the story. Happy sock knitting

  2. Knitting for babies (kids of all ages, really) is such a challenge because GROW they do! When my own kids were little, I never knit for them (maybe an occasional hat or mittens) because I couldn't keep up! I did do quite a bit of sewing for them, though. It was much faster to whip up something on my sewing machine than take the time to knit . . . Good luck with Iris's socks! XO

  3. I think it's a wonderful idea to start the year without any unraveling! I know that children grow, but I have forgotten how fast that happens. Maybe you can suggest to Iris that she slow down just a little bit, but she probably won't listen. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that your dryer is fixed. The Chinese food book sounds really interesting!

  4. I remember how quickly Molly outgrew things I made her, though at least they were small and didn't take much time. Maybe tube socks for Iris? The Eights sounds like it's right up my alley, so I've got it on hold. I found Broken Country to be a very quick read. I've not read the other one. Keeping my fingers crossed you end the day with a working dryer!

  5. Cute socks! It's so warm here I had to open all my windows and turn the heat off. I spent the day doing yard work. You can't say that very often in January!

  6. Those baby feet grow fast, lucky for Iris that she has a good knitter in her circle!

  7. I always make sweaters for growing little bodies but usually not socks until they are in adult size. Now, that makes no sense at all. They outgrow the sweaters too and they are a bigger commitment. I never said I was smart or made sense. :-)
We had 60F here today and I loved it. I even went outside with Zoey with NO coat on. On January 7th. That's unheard of but very nice.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

  8. The delight of knitting for a growing baby is the best thing in the world! I did start my new socks yesterday... that yarn is just lovely to knit with! I had not heard of The Artist and the Feast... I hope my library has a copy, it sounds like I'd enjoy it!
