Good Morning!
The temps are steadily climbing a bit, but it is still pleasant outside. We even had rain last night! I drove over to CVS after dinner (of course...what's a week or day without a visit there?) and as I pulled into the driveway on my way back the rain started. It wasn't hard, but it was steady and it sounded and smelled so good,
Today is the first Unraveled Wednesday of September! Almost like the first day of school. Everyone link up with Kat and her Merry Band of Unravelers to talk about making and reading. I guarantee you will find inspiration and perhaps a bit of enabling (we all do that so well!).
Since I had finished my Simple SKYP socks, I needed a pair of socks on the needles. I picked out some leftover Static from KnitPicks and cast on the first of a pair of socks for Iris. The little newborn socks I knit for her before she was even born never fit her. Her feet at birth were larger than those little socks!
I looked at some patterns for toddler socks to get an idea of how many stitches to cast on. I settled on 44. The cuff is a 1x1 twisted rib and then the leg (and foot when I get there) will just be plain vanilla. Theoretically these will be a quick knit...but time will tell.
Reading has been so good! I only finished one book but it was an amazing read. Isola by Allegra Goodman was just so good. It gave me all the feelies if you know what I mean. Just as "Crown" reminded me of "Nesting" "Isola" reminded me a little bit of "The Marriage Portrait." Completely different stories, but there are similarities. I highly recommend this one.
I'm in the middle of another library book that is excellent ("When the Cranes Fly South") and I have 3 more library books on my nightstand. AND, I just received an email yesterday that yet another book is ready for me to pick up. Guess I'll be busy for a little bit.
Time for me to gather things together to take over to C&M's today, dry my hair, and find something to eat. I hope your Wednesday proves to be a joyful one.
I love your socks for Iris! I'm amazed at how fast shortie socks are to knit, so I bet these will go fairly quickly. I hope iris doesn't outgrow these before she gets to wear them! I read Cranes as an ARC but you and Kat have me wanting to reread it. I've forgotten details but remember how much I liked it.
ReplyDeleteThat is a pretty color of Static. I’ve got a bag of Stroll Minis here and keep thinking about knitting some socks for the Baby Grand but I don’t think his brother ever wore the ones I made him. They seem to be barefoot every time I see them. Like their mother before them, they hate socks lol…
ReplyDeleteSounds like Iris is going to be tall if her feet were big at the very beginning! I'm sure those new socks will go fast. I'm so glad you loved Isola. I hadn't thought of The Marriage Portrait at the time, but I can definitely get a similar feeling.
ReplyDeleteI love those Iris Socks! I want to knit some socks for babies... but the bigger grands don't like hand knit socks at all... sigh. First I need to keep the Sweater Train moving! Ha! I am so glad you enjoyed Isola so much... it was a fantastic story! (and When Cranes Fly South... so absolutely beautiful!)
ReplyDeleteWhat sweet little socks, Vera! I have never had much luck knitting socks for little feet. The knitting itself always goes really well, and the socks are always charming to look at -- it's more the fit and the "feel." (My kids are both kinda like me . . . and never really liked the feel of handknit socks with shoes . . . ) Anyway . . . it'll be fun to knit the tiny socks!
ReplyDeleteThose are going to be cute little socks!
ReplyDeletetoddler socks should fly off your needles!! I do like that color way. We have had no rain here but I think this weekend we might get some. Our lawn is very crunchy.
