Unraveled Wednesday 2/4/26

 Hey, Hey!!

It was above 20 degrees this morning!  Flurries had been in the forecast (like we need more snow??), but no sign of any precipitation overnight.  Snow and ice are slowly sinking down and there is a bit of melting.  Fletch went out and did a little shoveling - he needed to make a path from the driveway to the side of the house so that our water meter could be read.  We had a letter from our water company that they've been doing estimated guesses for our water bill because the water meter was inaccessible.

After a week of hit or miss mail delivery, my February Sock Squad yarn finally arrived yesterday.  I love the main color but am not all that thrilled with the mini skein.  But, I'm thinking of saving the mini skeins to make a scrappy cowl or shawl later (like next year after I have them all).

On this Unraveled Wednesday, let's link up with Kat and see what everyone is making and reading.  I do enjoy Wednesday posts so much.  Similar to my Appil sampler, the Family Socks are progressing in a slow and steady way.  As you know, I'm on the last pair and the first of that set has reached the beginning of the heel flap.

The foot will be in blue once I turn the heel and then the toes will pick up the yellow again.  I'm liking the color combination.  You may remember that my thought had been to make Family Birthday Socks which didn't pan out.  Family Christmas Socks did not happen either.  And now it looks as though Family Valentine's Day socks won't happen either.  No way I can finish this sock and make a second matching one by the 14th.  But, that's ok.  It will be fun to give them to C&M&I whenever they are finished.

Reading has been good.  I did finish "Invitation to a Banquet" and learned so much about Chinese food and cooking.  I also read and finished The Devil's Cave by Martin Walker.  This is the 5th book in the Bruno, Chief of Police series and it may be my favorite one so far.  It definitely was good to be back in St. Denis and in the company of Bruno.

Fletch and I are listening to Run for the Hills by Kevin Wilson after dinner and we are both enjoying it a lot.  The narration is very good (usually that's a complaint for one or both of us).

Tell me, what are you up to on this Hump Day?  I hope it is something fun.

  1. I know the family socks will be loved and welcomed whenever they're done -- and getting new hand-knit socks is a cause for celebration whenever it happens! We almost got to freezing yesterday, and we've had sun the past several days, both of which have helped the roads and sidewalks improve a bit. But more snow is in the forecast for Friday. Today is just a typical Wednesday for me. Ruthie and I will go out for our usual walks given that it's above 20, and I'm going to try my best to finish my first sock of my pair by tonight.

  2. Slow and steady is the perfect speed for most stitching projects. (Unless you've got a growing family member. Then it may be best to knit on with haste!) I hope you can thaw out soon, Vera. XO

  3. It’ll be fun to see if Iris connects her socks to those of her mum and dad’s - with them all being similar colouring. Maybe aim for them to be a First Day of Spring or an Easter gift

  4. Your Family Socks will be an accomplishment and a welcome gift whenever you finish them! I hope you've explained to Iris that her feet are not allowed to grow any more until she receives her socks and wears them at least once. I have kind of forgotten about the Bruno books, but I think it's time I listen to the fourth book, especially after you've said that the fifth might be your favorite.

  5. You are making progress on all those socks. I also like the blue and yellow color combination. You remind me to get to book 2 of the Bruno series. I got disgruntled with my library for not offering the audio versions on either Libby or Hoopla. They do have the print copies though.

  6. I just got back from up north where I was sitting the Grands again for a couple of days and they were still plowing streets up there. The amount of ice and snow is unreal. It was in the 30's today but I hear it will be back in the 20's again tomorrow...boooo. At least we could come down the driveway again when we got home but we still moved the car back up the hill just in case. There were a lot of ice issues from refreezing tonight on our way home and lots of water main breaks.

  7. We don't have any snow left at all and it's supposed to be in the 40's, 50's and even 60's in the ten day forecast. What a strange winter it's been. We're still hoping to head south for a month or so after all of our medical appointments but we shall see what happens. It may be warmer up here than in Texas this year!
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

  8. It was snowing here on my dark early walk with Frankie... sparkly snowflakes that shone like diamonds in the light of my headlamp! It was so beautiful that I could even overlook the frigid temp (a whopping 5 degrees) I loved the rich depth of the February sock yarn as well... a good red is so hard to dye!

  9. The sock is looking good. I found that I just use the colors that come my way--it is good to stretch you!

  10. Family Socks require no holiday, they are perfect to give whenever they are finished!

  11. Nothing sinking down here yet. Saturday will be below zero, fierce wind. Good time to start a deep clean. Too bad I'm lazy.
