Unraveled Wednesday - August 11, 2021

 Hello Everyone!

How are you doing mid-week?  It's looking a bit grey here this morning, but I'm betting that will burn off.  It is supposed to be very hot today.  The retirement dinner last night was really very, very nice (though the food was mediocre).  It was a later affair than I had hoped and driving home wasn't all that fun - rain and dark and eyes that are not quite right!  But, easier than the last time I drove at night (I think 3 years ago??).  Anyway, I was home by 10:15 or so and in bed by 11, so not too bad.

I've got my work cut out for me today - a bunch of reports to run and send out and some tracking forms I need to set up.  My eyes got tired quickly yesterday morning, so I plan to take it a bit more slowly today and take the time to stop and rest my eyes now and then.  And, of course, I hope to find pockets of time when I can just relax and knit or stitch some.  We'll see.

Once again, I am linking up with Kat and her merry band of knitters/unravelers for Unraveled Wednesday (do check out the fun ribbon she just found!!).  I'm happy to say that Damon's first "Out of This World" sock is off the needles!  The yarn colorway is "Neptune" and thus the name I have given the socks.

The foot looks HUGE in this picture, but really it is just a normal size foot.  (The zinnias in the vase have been there for 2 weeks now...and it looks like it is time to replace them!)  I have yet to cast on for sock #2, but hope to remedy that today.

On the reading front, I finished Unsettled Ground by Claire Fuller.  Oh my!  Her writing is just so good, but the characters in this book...and the story...just so bleak.  Much of it did not really seem all that believable to me, but it did hold my interest and I give it 4 stars.

Fletch and I have been reading (slowly - only 6 or so pages a night) From Earth to the Moon by Jules Verne.  We find ourselves laughing out loud almost every evening - so much tongue in cheek humor.  It's a very short book, so I am glad we are taking it slowly.

Well, time to start my engine and step into the work day.  Hope your week is going well!

  1. Your sock is wonderful, and I'm sure you will have a pair soon. Please do take time to rest your eyes when you can. I don't know what could happen if they were to get over-tired, but I want you to be able to continue to knit, stitch (and drive)!

  2. I second Bonny's urging to rest your eyes! (I mean there are *important* things - knitting, stitching, reading - in the balance! :)

    Have a good day!

  3. I trust that you will rest your eyes when you need to, Vera. As Bonny and Kat point out, you need to continue using them for knitting, stitching, and reading! :-) I'm glad you "enjoyed" Unsettled Ground, Vera. It sounds like you felt much the same way as I did in the reading . . .

  5. Woo hoo for the man sock finish! I just slogged through a pair and will NEVER save my man socks for summer again. I feel like I am drowning in wool and I still have another two pairs to go for the Christmas gift box. Somebody might not be getting any this year if this heat wave continues. We are already in historic territory for days in the 90's and we still have an awful lot of August left not to mention September which used to be a fall month but is now most certainly still summer around here. Ugh.

  7. I always get freaked out when I do a sock with a ribbed leg but a plain foot! The ribbing pulls it in so much!

  8. Out of This World looks great: I ❤️ blue socks! Try some artificial tears (I use Refresh) when you eye gets tired. I used it between the prescribed drops occasionally for relief.

  10. I just finished Unsettled Ground this morning! There were many times when I felt that the story might have been set a century ago (or more), for a lot of reasons, but then a mobile phone would come up or Uber or something. I can't imagine being that sheltered and/or duped... for so long.

  12. I'm glad you enjoyed Unsettled Ground! I very much share your sentiments, but having just finished Claire Fuller's first novel, I appreciate the happy(ish) ending so much more.

  13. The colors in that sock are lovely - blue of course - which I love. Zinnias last so long in the house. I have a bouquet in a blue Mason jar on my kitchen counter. I smile every time I look at it.
