More Snow!

 Good Morning My Friends,

I'm a bit weary this a.m. which I will explain in a bit.

But, first, tell me how you are and how was your weekend?  I hope you carved out some time to enjoy those things that you do - knitting perhaps, reading, sewing, whatever.

Colin & Mailing came over Saturday for dinner.  I made red beans (a New Orleans/Creole dish) and rice, roasted Brussels sprouts and an apple crisp (with whipped cream of course).  The kids brought over frozen Palomas (Ina Garten recipe) and wow were they delicious!  Red grapefruit juice, tequila, lime = amazing!  The only picture I took was of the red beans in the morning when they were simmering away on the stove.

Aside from the kidney beans, the dish also has hot & sweet Italian sausage, onions, peppers, garlic, celery and a ton of spices.  So tasty.  (And pretty in my new Dutch oven!!)

Snow was forecast for Sunday and sure enough it started a little after I got up and continued all day.  At times the flakes were HUGE.  It was (thankfully) a light, fluffy snow - easy to clear from the cars and the drive.

It was very pretty out.  At one point I was sitting in the kitchen working on my stitching and I looked out the patio door and there were so many cardinals!

Cardinals always look so striking to me against snow.  What a sight!

I was also able to get a start on the second Yule Wave sock.  I cast on Friday night and got the ribbing finished.  Yesterday I finished up the colorwork and have started down the balance of the leg.

My sleep was broken Saturday night, so I was pretty tired and went to bed early last night - like 9 p.m.!  Tyg woke me at 12:15 to go out.  Mind you it was forecast to be bitter cold last night (and it is 11 degrees this a.m., so the temp did drop), but I figured he has a fur coat, he will be fine.  Well, I slept a bit fitfully after that and at 3 a.m. I heard a noise on the patio roof right off one of our bedroom windows.  I got up and looked out (it's almost like daylight at night because of all the snow) and that bugger of a cat was on the patio roof meowing to come in.  I can't believe he managed to climb up onto the roof with all the snow!  He saw me looking out, so I opened the window and before I had it fully opened Tyg had jumped up, pushed the screen in and was jumping from the windowsill onto the bed!  What a beast!!  Of course, he wanted a kitty treat after that episode, so I went downstairs with him, got him some treats and then went back to bed.  It took me some time to fall back asleep, so that is why I am a bit weary this a.m.  Luckily work (so far) is quiet.

Hopefully my peaceful morning will continue and I can just take it easy.  Wishing you all a wonderful week!

  1. So many cardinals! I never see more than a pair or a small family with young ones in the springtime. What a beautiful sight it must have been in person.

Tyg has you trained Very Very Well.

  2. I was not thrilled to get more snow (and more again this week), but it does provides a lovely background for all those cardinals. That is a great great photo! Hope your peaceful day continues!

  3. What a naughty boy! LOL I can't believe he wanted to be outside when it was SO cold.

Giroux spent the night curled into a tight knot on the blanket at the foot of the bed.

  5. I am so lucky that all my nincompoop inside cats sleep all night. They howl all evening to go out and run right back in but once it's lights out they stay put until morning. We do have an extra outdoor heated hut we keep plugged in at night in case one of them doesn't make it back in. The Mister was just carrying on about our electric bill. We have 4 heated huts now. Two that we keep running all day in case one of them needs it plus an electric food and water bowl for the little devils. All that and the lazy things let mice eat the wires out of my Mini Cooper in the driveway AGAIN.

  6. Oh my! Look at all those cardinals! We have a couple mated pairs that hang around, but certainly not that many! And never all at once!

    Oh Tyg!

Relic is not allowed out after dark in the winter - mostly because I prefer to have him in before I go to bed. I just can't sleep if he's out. Especially after that last episode where he disappeared for more than a day! He doesn't like it, of course, but he seems to have gotten used to it. He knows once the curtains are closed on the back door, he had no chance of it being opened until morning.

In summer, he's allowed out a lot later - he's usually home by 10 or 11 and I'm good with that.

  8. Those cardinals! What a sight!

I applaud Tyg for his ability to figure out how to get in! But I"m sure that was annoying!

  9. Your dinner looks wonderful and I can only imagine the aroma wafting around your kitchen. Poor Tyg. What was he thinking wanting outside in that? Poor you haveing to get up in the middle of the night. I'm sorry you're not sleeping well. Neither am I. It always feels either hot or cold. Never seems to be a happy medium and for the last several months Chloe has decided to sleep with us. She has never done that before. Maybe it's all of the upheaval in our lives right now. But she takes up my entire side of the bed. She starts in a small curled up ball and ultimately stretches out along the entire length of the bed. Dennis and I are using the other half of the queen size bed! We must love her!
Those cardinals are gorgeous. You need to frame that photo. The red and the snow are so, so pretty.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  14. Those cardinals! Such an amazing sight! I'm sorry you've had sleep issues the past couple of days -- we really notice it when we haven't rested enough, don't we? I hope the rest of your Monday was calm and that you were able to get a good night's rest last night.
