Unraveled Wednesday July 17 2019

Good Morning!

It is already sultry outside and it's not even 8 a.m.  Yesterday when I left work around 3:45, my car thermometer said 104!  It is supposed to be like this through the weekend.

It actually wasn't all that bad outside around 7:30 or so last night.  Tyg has been dreaming of frog legs as a snack for some time now.  We have a very small water feature by our patio.  Often we have toads and occasionally a frog.  This year a small frog has been hanging around for several weeks.  Tyg will cautiously go up and smell the water and sometimes stick a paw in it.  Last night I was sitting on the patio and Tyg was lounging on the grass.  He suddenly got up and lunged into the gooseneck and other plants growing by the back of the water feature.  He came out with poor little froggy in his mouth!  I yelled and picked up Tyg...he opened his mouth and froggy fell out.  I put Tyg inside and called Fletch.  We looked around but couldn't see froggy.  A little later I went out and there was froggy on the edge of the water feature.  He saw me and jumped into the water with a splash, so I guess he is ok.  Perhaps a bit traumatized, but ok.  Whew!!

Yesterday I did manage to knit about 10 rows on Porthos at lunch and another 10 last night.  I think I have about 25 rows left before the toe decreases begin.

(Today's water has cucumber and basil in it - yesterday's was strawberries and rosemary)

I did not bring knitting with me today.  A visit to Trader Joe's is in order and if I have any extra time after that, I did bring a book to read.  On that front, I finished The Lighthouse Keeper's Daughter which I really enjoyed.  It was a good summer read - engaging but not taxing on my brain - lol.  I give it 4.5 stars.  Now I'm in the midst (well about 50 pages into) The Salt Path: A Memoir which I'm finding to be very good.  I'm enjoying reading *real* books for a change from my Kindle.

Wishing you all a wonderful week and if you are in the midst of this oppressive heat wave, hoping you can find relief somewhere.  Head on over to Kat's to see what others are making and reading this week.

  2. like the sound of the books you are reading. My knitting has been slow going because our son is here this week. I know it will be back to usual when he leaves so no worries!

  3. Stay safe, little frog! Your sock is really coming along and soon you'll be on to the second one. Keep drinking plenty of that water; it's brutal out there!

  5. We've had a small pond for ages, and we've never had a frog! I'm jealous.

We've got the remnants of Barry along with the heat wave for the rest of this week. Thankfully, two new books arrived yesterday and I've got two knitting projects going. I also want to get started on Season Two of "Big Little Lies" on HBO.

You're really knocking out that sock!

  6. Ugh, ugh, ugh....this weather is the worst. How on earth did anyone survive before AC?
One of our outdoor kitties has a thing for frogs. I am surprised any survive but a big one jumped out at me the other day just as I was putting out some water for the kitties. He scared the beejeezes out of me.

  11. Love your water and I'm glad you saved the little frog. That's always traumatic isn't it? Even if it's not an animal I "know", I still hate to see them hurt.
We have had an abnormally cool summer so far. I'm wrapped in a blanket with all of the windows open right now! However, that is supposed to change and be in the 90's next week so I guess our turn is coming.
    Have a great day Vera!
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  12. Our brats are always after the toads and frogs. I hate that. A brave (or idiot) little guy is always sitting on the deck in full view. I pick him up and move him but he always comes back. Yep. Heat wave in PA this weekend.

  13. OK, I can't believe I'm so behind in my blog reading! Yikes! Love your pink socks, and this new one is nice too! Loved seeing the fox in your backyard as well. I'm not looking forward to the heat and humidity -- it's disgusting out there and it's not even the worst it will be! Happy hump day!

  14. Summer was meant for reading lighter fiction. My list is full of that type of book, and I'm loving every one of them.

  15. Oh my.. what a story of Tyg and the frog! I'm so glad the frog lived through the trauma. I am at the end of "The Lighthouse Keeper's Daughter" and found it good but was NOT pleased with the illness and loss of Grace. Nor what happened to Harriet.. grumble. Now I'll need another good book. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  16. Hello, I am glad the frog survived. Tyg is a good hunter. The sock and pattern are pretty. I have been wanting to go shopping at Trader Joe's, I keep putting it off. I hope you stay cool during this heat wave. I am happy to stay inside and read on my kindle. Happy Thursday, enjoy your day! Have a happy weekend ahead.

  17. Poor froggy! Relic hasn't had an experience with frogs (that I know of)... but he does love his baby buns!

Hope you can stay cool - it's sweltering here too.

  18. We have to rescue lizards from our cats all the time so I know what your adrenaline surge feels like! lol
The sock looks like the static on a b/w tv! (I mean that in a very good way!)

  19. Your sock is looking great. I think I will flavor my water. I forget about that from summer to summer. I even have a water bottle with a basket to hold fruit or cucumber or whatever. I like your combinations. Good save on the frog. Whew. Good sock work. You are almost there.
