Unraveled Wednesday 01-16-19

Hello!

Gosh it is cold outside...and colder weather (and snow) is forecast for our weekend.  Colin & Mailing are heading to NYC on Friday for a weekend get-away and we are on cat duty...hopefully we won't have any issues getting up to their place to feed and play with Talbot & Marcel.

How did it get to be the middle of January already?

Last night I wound the yarn for Fletcher's cowl and knit a little swatch.  It is so soft.  The yarn is from Ancient Arts Yarn - Revival Worsted in the colorway "Birch Leaves."  It's a blend of 49% wool; 34% mohair; 11% nylon; 4% acrylic and 2% silk.

This will be knit flat as Fletch wants it to button.  There will be ribbing at the top and bottom and the middle will be a small pattern (you can see it better in the swatch in the first picture....and see my scribble of it in the second picture).  I measured his neck (and did not pull the tape too tight).  Today I will graph out the pattern (I need to work out the maths as they say in Britain) and work out buttonholes in it.  Hopefully I can start knitting at lunch!

On the reading front, I am about halfway through As Bright as Heaven and am finding it a good read.  Last night Fletch and I FINALLY finished Benjamin Franklin: An American Life - it seemed to take forever to read this.  It was good, but parts of it dragged for us and it was difficult at times to read more than 10 pages out loud after dinner.  Glad to have read it (learned some things about Ben that I hadn't known), but glad to have it finished as well.  Up next I think we are doing a palate cleanser - something quick and easy - a spy-type thriller in the lines of Dan Brown or Robert Ludlum.  I can't remember the name of it.

Joining in with Kat and others on this Unraveled Wednesday.  What are you all up to?

  1. That sounds like a wonderfully pleasant yarn to work with -- and the color is great. How lucky is Fletch to get a custom-designed cowl! Enjoy the process. XO

  3. We're under threat of three snowstorms for the weekend here in NEO. Sigh. Trying not to think about it.

Kudos to you for finishing the Ben Franklin. Ugh.

That swatch looks so soft and gorgeous. What a pleasure it will be to wear!

  5. Have fun planning Fletch's cowl. I hope the storm cooperates and allows you an Fletch to complete the kitty duty without any difficulty.

  6. Vera, be careful in the weather! I'm kind of snickering, I have to say, that your Ancient Arts yarn has acrylic and nylon in it!

  7. Hoping that the crazy winter weather doesn't mess with our plans on Saturday. I'm thinking we might squeeze in a visit BETWEEN storms.

I picked out my yarn for our cast on. See you on Saturday.

  8. That is beautiful yarn for Fletch’s cowl. I like the pattern you’ve come up with too. Hopefully you can knit very fast because it sounds like he’s going to need it sooner rather than later. :-) I hope you don’t run into any problems taking care of the kitties this weekend and I truly appreciate you thinking of me and my back issues. Physical therapy is coming along and I have an injection in my back next Tuesday. Blessings, Betsy

  9. We've got the cold and a dusting of snow, but we could get a bad storm this weekend.
I hope your weather holds so you can take care of the kitties!

Love the yarn - I love a good golden yellow! So cheerful in winter!

  10. I love that you read aloud after dinner. I wish I could convince The Mister to do that. I can't even get him to listen to one of my Audibles. He's an avid reader but has to do it on his own terms.

  11. I think Fletch will be quite fetching in his cowl and I do hope you share a photo of his modeling it! I admire you reading non-fiction. I read to escape and do my learning of history on the channel of the same name. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

Be safe on the storm front--if only I could get my DH to read like that with me....

  14. Your blue hat looks toasty warm. The cowl sounds as if it will be a great project. How nice that you read out loud to each other. What a lovely way to spend an hour or so together.
