A Fly-By Post of a Fly-By Weekend

Hello All,

Back from a whirlwind weekend in Virginia.  It was a fast, but very fun trip.  Realized I had not been down to see everyone in about 7 years!!  Fletch has been down a number of times, but usually for camping with his brother or a friend – a guy vacation.  Was fun to reconnect with everyone.  I (of course) took both knitting and reading and (of course) did not touch either one!

We stayed in Norfolk at the house of one of my brothers-in-law.  Went out to eat, took some walks in the neighborhood and basically just hung out and talked.

The wedding on Saturday was out in the country (Suffolk) about 45 minutes from where we were.  And the temperature dropped dramatically.  The reception was a big ole BBQ at the couple’s home.  WINDY like crazy.  But still a ton of fun.  I never once took a picture!  I think I was just too busy catching up with everyone.  Plus everyone had their phones out snapping pictures the entire time.  The photographer did get a lot of family pictures since all of Fletcher’s brothers and sisters were there…so hopefully some of those turned out.

Sunday we went out to breakfast and hit the road.  Traffic was horrible.  It was cruise day or weekend or something in the Dover (DE) or Salisbury (MD) area and Route 1, and 95 were both jammed with vehicles.  Our trip home was at least 90 minutes longer than usual.  On Route 1 we were almost side-swiped by a van and then again on 95 we were almost side-swiped by a big truck.  Colin and Mailing made it home ahead of us and had enough time to shower, change and head out to a friend’s wedding at 4 p.m. on Sunday!  We were just happy to make it home safely.

Now it’s back to a busy week at work and gearing up for my brother and sister-in-law to arrive from Colorado on Friday.  It’s all fun though!

  1. You know it's a good weekend when you're having too much fun to take pictures! I'm glad you got home safely; I hate Routes 1 and 95 (also 78) and always feel like I'm taking my life in my hands when I have to travel them. Have a good week getting ready for more fun with your brother and sil!

  3. Heavy traffic is not fun, and I'm glad you escaped two accidents. You're guardian angels were on the job.

Not taking photos is a good thing. Sometimes, I get so obsessed with taking photos that I miss some of the fun. Enjoy your company this weekend.

  5. Sometimes it is better to put the camera away and just enjoy life in real time!!!

Must be something about I-95. We went to Georgia on Friday and there was a major accident both coming and going. People drive like idiots in Georgia.

Glad you made it safely home and that you had a good visit to VA.

  7. That was a hectic schedule but I am glad you had a good time catching up with acquaintances! (95 is terrible here, too; you can't stop being vigilant for a second!)

  8. It sounds like it was a fun weekend, that's more important than a thousand pictures! The trip home sounds frustrating - whenever we go to visit family in Baltimore, there is one stretch of I-95 where we always get slowed down, regardless of day, time, etc. Ugh.

I hope you have fun with your guests who are coming - hooray!

  9. When al worked and lived in VA. she worked at NOrfolk General and Childrens hospital of the Kings Daughters. CHKD. She made the BEST friends there. I loved that she lived in Suffolk. It was country and beautiful. She always said the tunnels and traffic were awful. Im so glad you got home safely!

  10. Hi Vera, so glad you had a fun time in Virginia. I lived in Lynchburg for 18 months right out of college. It was soooooo beautiful, a tad too conservative for me with Liberty University and all but still a great place. Hugs,
    M
